Program Overview
The AFS-USA Flagship Program offers students the chance to experience life in one of the world’s most culturally diverse nations. The United States is often described as a “melting pot,” “salad bowl,” or even a “chili bowl”—a country where people from different cultures come together while maintaining their unique identities.
Participants will discover a nation with diverse landscapes, climates, traditions, and lifestyles. Most placements occur in rural or suburban communities, where public transport is limited, requiring good planning and coordination with host families.
Students must be open-minded, adaptable, and ready to live with host families of various backgrounds, structures, and lifestyles. They are expected to act as ambassadors of their home country, engage in family and community life, contribute to household responsibilities, manage school commitments, and show maturity throughout the program.
AFS-USA is committed to inclusivity and supports students with disabilities through reasonable accommodations.
