Here are the answers to some questions concerning volunteering for AFS Interculture South Africa. Please contact us if any other questions arise about Volunteering with AFS.

HOW DO I BECOME AN AFS VOLUNTEER?
Please send us an online enquiry or contact us directly.
Find the contact details in the right sidebar on this page.
AFS Interculture South Africa will then contact you to discuss about the possibilities for volunteering and send you further information.
DO I NEED TO SPEAK A FOREIGN LANGUAGE TO BE AN AFS VOLUNTEER?
Volunteers are not required to speak a foreign language, although it can be a great way to learn or brush up! But also keep in mind that the AFS participant come to South Africa to learn and improve their abilities in a foreign language.
HOW MUCH TIME DO I NEED TO GIVE TO AFS AS A VOLUNTEER?
There is no set requirement for how much time you give AFS. Some volunteers choose to focus their work on a single activity within their community. AFS welcomes your support and respects your availability.
WHAT ARE AFS VOLUNTEERS RESPONSIBLE FOR?
There are many ways you can help AFS with your volunteer time. AFS volunteers on a local level help coordinate recruitment, selection, placement, preparation and support activities for AFS participants and host families. Volunteers also help with fundraising and volunteer training and development. Local volunteers also arrange various social AFS activities and events.
WHAT IS A CHAPTER?
A Chapter is a group of volunteers in a community. There are AFS volunteers living in many parts of South Africa – some contribute as individuals, and others have joined a chapter in their area. Chapters perform many functions related to the programs, such as counselling and orientations, but they also provide an environment, which enables volunteers to socialise and meet new people. Generally, the volunteers in a chapter would meet monthly.
One of the powers of the chapter is to guide AFS by electing fellow volunteers to the National Board.
