AFS Interculture South Africa is proud to be a partner of Voices Unite, a ground-breaking student engagement platform and national research study focusing on young people in South Africa.

AFS promotes and facilitates intercultural learning and awareness through exchange programmes and other intercultural learning activities; to help people develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to create a more just and peaceful world. A key part of providing programmes for young people is knowing what young people actually want! This was the reason that AFS has become a part of Voices Unite – here at AFS we want to provide the intercultural learning opportunities that South Africa’s youth will find essential to navigate the global issues facing every one of us in the twenty-first century.

The Voices Unite programme will enable meaningful collaboration between a range of organisations that need to focus their work on the needs of the youth (government, corporates, non-profits, and education providers). The data collected through the programme will enable organisations to better work together on youth-focused programmes aiming at a brighter future for South African youth.

In the interconnected global society of the twenty-first century it is vital that our youth are able to develop important intercultural skills: the ability to understand different cultural contexts and viewpoints, to demonstrate respect for others, and to have some knowledge of a foreign language. South African youth need to grasp every opportunity to develop these skills and interact more fully with their peers around the world.

The platform went live on 10th February 2020 and can be found here
