Community colleges provide a quality, affordable introduction to higher education while AFS ensures that you have the tools and support needed to thrive in a new country. With the guidance of AFS, you won’t have to worry about starting school in a new country and in an unfamiliar academic environment. And your parents might not worry as much since you are not embarking on this adventure alone.

These days, community colleges offer a wide range of programme choices, from Business Management to Education, from Engineering to Mathematics, and all of the Social Sciences. So there are plenty of options to suit your academic interests!

This is a great opportunity for students to try what it’s like to study abroad. Since US community colleges have agreements with most US universities, it’s easy to transfer credits. In other words, while these are two-year institutions, the course credits are generally recognised by and, in most cases, transfer quite easily to four-year colleges and universities. If, after a semester or year in a community college, you decide to study elsewhere, the credit for courses you have completed will benefit you wherever you choose to study.

Application deadlines vary depending on locations and when you want to study. Once we learn more about you and your academic needs, we’ll provide you with more information on application procedures and deadlines. Please aim to have all your complete application paperwork to the AFS-USA office by May 1 for autumn enrolment, and by Oct. 1 for spring term enrolment.

Generally, colleges on the east coast will require an arrival, for the first semester, in mid August. For west coast colleges, the arrival occurs in early September.
